Work to update the interior and exterior of Reed Elementary continues, with noticeable changes that will welcome students and staff to the school in September.

By the first day of school, about a dozen classrooms will be updated with new lighting, flooring and paint. Updates to some of the bathrooms will be complete, along with a staff room overhaul.

Additional work expected to be complete by August 2026 includes:

• Upgraded HVAC
• Updated security, including new cameras, remote intercom systems with video capabilities, and entry-card badge readers and security monitoring systems
• Redesigned school entry that relocates the main entrance and administration offices to provide a secured vestibule and waiting area for visitors
• New elevator to comply with ADA requirements
• Five classrooms added to the building (music, coaching, STEAM/AV)
• Redesigned library
• Completed bathroom and classroom upgrades
• Removal of portables  
• Update to secured student courtyard space for learning and play

Students will continue to attend school in the existing building until the renovations are complete.

Ferguson Architecture and Washington Patriot Construction lead the design and work on the project, which is funded by the $535 million school construction bond voters passed in 2020.
